Ensuring The Lasting Beauty Of Marble Tiles
Marble, which may be white or colored, is a stone that is often used as a building material for floors, kitchens, and bathrooms. Marble is porous, and easily stained, or etched by acids. Should this happen, wipe off any spills immediately, as you would on a wood surface. Do not put drink glasses directly upon marble, since they may leave stains. If your marble has a lot of damage, you may need to contact some marble restoration companies.
To prevent the absorption of stains into the porous marble, use a marble sealant. To aid in the prevention of etching, do not allow acids to directly contact your marble.
In addition, basic, or alkaline, fluids will get absorbed into the marble and cause its surface to become rough. If you keep your marble tiles well sealed, you will be able to keep them clean with a damp mop. If soil does not remove easily, wash the tile with a solution of mild detergent and water, then rinse thoroughly.
Remove stains promptly. In order to get rid of stains, use an absorbent cloth or tissue. Moisten your absorbent cloth with a chemical stain removal solution, then rub it on the stain, next, make a paste out of whiting powder and apply it to the stain and cover it. The wipe should be left on the stain from 1 to 48 hours, depending on the age and depth of the stain. Plastic wrap, held in place by masking tape, can be put over the wiping agent to keep it damp. Only mix enough for immediate use, mix it a second time of another application is required.
Acidic drinks, such as fruit juice and soda will etch and remove the shiny polished surface of marble, so try not to allow them to contact it. Immediately clean off the acidic spill and wipe the surface with a clean, most cloth. If the surface is etched, some form of polishing may be required. In cases where you have a large area that is stained you might need to utilize a business with expertise in how to clean marble floors
Your marble may also be stained by oils, including butter, lotions, and hand cream, among others. As quickly as possible, spread the surface with an absorbent fine powder such as whiting or even corn starch. After a brief time frame, wipe the powder off the surface and apply some more. Let the marble stand for approximately one day. Scrub the marble with a hot detergent solution and stiff brush or wipe with an ammonia dampened cloth, and in either case, rinse and wipe the surface dry. If all the oil alkaline solutions are not removed using these alkaline solutions, try a solvent. Make a wipe dampened with acetone or amyl acetate, or with a home dry cleaning fluid. Before doing this, ensure that the room is well ventilated. Do not use near a spark or flame, and do not leave the solution on for too long.
The following instructions are for stains that have resulted from soft drinks, coffee or tea. Get a wiping material soaked with 20% peroxide, at hair bleaching strength, and add a few drops of ammonia.
Rust stains are frequently the result of metal furniture or lamps making contact the marble surface. Utilize a stain remover made specifically for rust. Follow the directions exactly and do not leave on the surface for long periods as acid in many rust removers can etch the surface.
For general maintenance, it is advised to dust mop interior floors frequently using a clean non-treated dry dust mop. Abrasive sand and dirt will damage the surface of your marble. To minimize this damage, cover heavy traffic areas with rugs or mats. It is helpful if the underside of the rug has a surface that is not slippery, such as rubber or foam.
