What do you use a gregg ruled steno notebook for?

I see these everywhere; the lined notebooks with a vertical line through the middle of the page. What are they actually used for?

They *were* actually used back in the day when stenographers took shorthand on them. Haven't you ever seen the old movies when the boss is dictating to his secretary? She's taking notes in shorthand -- and there were two different types of shorthand, but the one primarily used in this country was Gregg.

The procedure is just about obsolete now, but the notebooks live on. I actually like those notebooks a lot. They may be a relic of the past but I hope they hang around forever.
