A White Board Helps With Public Speaking
A White Board and How It Can Be Used
A white board is best known by several names including dry-erase board, marker board, dry-wipe board as well as pen-board. These are basically names that are given to any kind of glossy surface that is white in color. It is with these kinds of boards that you can create non-permanent markings. The whiteboard became very popular during the mid-1980s and even now it is considered to be an important fixture in offices, school classrooms, meeting rooms, restaurants as well as many other places. This term has also been used metaphorically in regard to the characteristics of computer software applications which tend to reproduce white board. The usage of virtual whiteboards makes it possible for people to carry out writing as well as drawing images on an imitation canvas.
White board material is also perfect for things like counter tops. While not completely immune to wear and tear, it can last for years as a kitchen counter top or even a worktable top. This surface is very easy to clean. If the surface starts to look shabby and dirty, a quick wipe with some bleach water will make it looking as good as new in no time.
The generation that grew up with whiteboards in modern times evolved out of the one that knew chalkboards. The initial whiteboards were found in the market during the mid 1960s. Basically, the concern of chalk dust being a serious health problem made people change over to whiteboards. Initially the whiteboards were found to be very costly and were being made from a melamine surface. It was considered to be a good alternative for the chalkboard but later it became clear that it was quite a hassle keep it clean.
Great improvements have been made in the span of 10 years on the enamel-on-steel magnetic whiteboard, the price has gone down and they do not have an annoying glare although the surface is glossy. It is now possible to convert doors, walls and, fridges into whiteboards by using special white board paint available at local hardware stores since the year 2008. Magnetic glass, regular glass, melamine, painted steel or aluminum, and hard coat laminate are all possible surfaces for whiteboards. There are a number of uses for whiteboards during a presentation. It makes it possible for you to edit, underline or fill in blanks, whatever you need to do to get your message across at the time of giving a presentation.
Some people even find that talking is easier in front of a whiteboard. Markers don't screech the way chalk does on a black board, and they are also specially designed to be easy to hold. It is great if you only have the use of one hand due to some physical defect.
It is also true that making whiteboards involves a smaller amount of time and effort and uses readily available materials in comparison to the formation of a chalkboard. White board use saves paper which helps the enviornment, which likely outweighs any negative side effects caused by dry erase markers.
You can enjoy the use of a number of colors by using different markers. On the other hand, one needs to be careful in assuring they are using real dry-erase markers. The wrong marker being used is responsible for the ruining of many whiteboard surfaces. The use of the wrong marker will result in markings that might be almost impossible to delete.
White backgrounds are well understood to be the best for reading, especially for anyone that has a visual impairment.
These days whiteboards are found in pretty much any size you desire, with options of frames ranging from oak to plastic or aluminum. It's always best to practice cleaning your whiteboard regularly to avoid a poor looking surface. You usually receive installation hardware in addition to an accessory tray for markers and erasers.
i want to buy a sheet to make my own dry-wipe whiteboard. what is the name of the material theyr made out of?
i specifically want the type of material thats for use with dry wipe marker pens.
Plain white formica sheeting is commonly used. You can buy it from DIY stores as 8' x 4' sheets or as offcuts in smaller sizes.
You can also buy it with a faint pattern of squares marked in black, red, blue, green, etc which is good if you intend to draw graphs on it or make scaled drawings.
It can be easily bonded to a backing sheet of steel or aluminum, thick nylon boards, or plywood to make a stiff-backed whiteboard.
It will need rubbing over every so often as the pens leave some staining behind. Rubbing alcohol or methylated spirit does the job fine.
Don't use scouring pads or powders because they put tiny scratches into the surface which makes the pens leave even more stains which are difficult to remove.
Keep the surface as smooth and polished as you can, free of scratches.
I made several while I was an instructor in the Army. They are long lasting and easy to make.
